Chocolate Frosting

Hello my fellow inhabitants of tierra,

It has been a good week here on the island of Tenerife. So first things first. I just want to say that it is a very important day today, because it is the birthday of one W. Mark Bassett. Yeah, Happy Birthday Dad!

Ok, onto the week. The week starts off with Elder Johnson deciding to make some peanut butter bars for district meeting. At the end of the day, we get back to the piso, and he starts making them. Then he asks me to make the chocolate frosting. So I start making it and right off the bat big problem. The recipe calls for powdered sugar, but we don’t have it. So, being the desperate man I am, I start using white sugar. But, we only have half a cup. Already committed now, I used brown sugar instead. So I make the frosting, and it turns out tasting quite strangely. I kept messing with it trying to make it taste better, but eventually had to give up. In the end, I threw in some eggs, a little flour, and about an hour later we had a bundt cake. No joke, frosting became a bundt cake. And it was actually very delicious. Ha, so we had that for district meeting.

Onto the rest of the week. We have been focusing a lot this week on talking in the street to try and build up our teaching pool. Thankfully, we got a bunch of citas lined up for this week, so we´ll see how those go. We spent a couple days in Puerto this week and a couple in La Laguna. Our plans at this point are to be in Puerto Thursday and Friday and La Laguna every other day. We also spend every other Saturday in Puerto. Both places have a lot of potential, and we are already starting to see a lot of miracles, which is awesome!

Here’s a brief update on the citas we did have. We met with one part member family that went well. The mom is a member and the father and daughter aren´t. The dad and daughter are both reading in The Book of Mormon, which is great. We met with them last week and talked for a bit. They are a super fun family; we are going to keep working with them and try and get them to take the lessons. At this point, they are just reading out of curiosity. The hard thing is that the father is very strongly catholic, so it’s slow going. I’ll keep you updated.

The other investigator is named Alejandro. He is a super great guy. He was one of the investigators that was with Elder Brasher right before me. He has been taught a lot, but he has a lot on his plate right now and still has a lot of doubts. We are working right now on helping him build a testimony of The Book of Mormon. Again, I´ll keep you informed.

So, that’s it as far as this week. Like I said, we have been doing a lot of talking so there isn’t a lot of big events to talk about. Some stuff going down this week. We have zone conference this Friday, awesome. Now, since we are in the islands, it’s a little harder for the Packs to visit, so when they come, they get everything done for the whole zone. So this week we are going to have zone conference, interviews, and at some point, piso checks. We spent a lot of time cleaning today getting ready for those. That’s about all that I can think of at this point. As always, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask, and I´ll do my best to answer.

This week, I wanted to share one of my favorite scriptures and talk about what I think is the most important event in the history of everything. The scripture is in The Book of Mormon, Alma 7:11-12, and the event is the atonement of Christ. I want to testify, that I know that Jesus Christ knows each and everyone of us. He suffered so much more then we can possibly understand for that purpose: to know us, to help us, and to forgive us. No matter the diversity of our struggles, He understands, because He experienced it, too. I would be nothing without Him. He is my Savior and redeemer, and He is yours, too. This week I want to testify, that your Savior loves each and everyone of you. I love you all.
