Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Hey everyone!!

Elder Bassett and Elder Jordan
Man so it has been one crazy week! Lot of changes and adjustments, but honestly, I am loving it! Like I said last time, my new area is El Ferrol, and it is incredible! It's super beautiful here. It's not as cold as I thought it would be. It does rain a lot, though. We always need to carry umbrellas around, because you never know when a random rainstorm might come through.

So, I left the island Monday night and spent the night in Madrid. The next morning I caught a train that took me to the north. It was about a 6-hour trip. Not gonna lie, it felt pretty long at times. My train got in early, so I had to go find a payphone to give the elders a call to come pick me up...so that's the story of the first time I've used a payphone on my mission.

That night, we dropped my stuff off and then went and got to work. My new companion is a pretty cool guy. His name is Elder Jordan, and he is from Mesa, Arizona. He just finished his training, so I am his second companion. He seems like a hard worker, and he is a pretty funny guy, so I am looking forward to this next transfer with him.

The district is super cool. We are 10 missionaries again, but this time we have a matrimony couple. It's super cool; we have district meeting at their house, and they fed us afterwards. It was a super good district meeting; we focused on obedience, relationship with your companion, and talking to everyone. I liked it a lot. We have a good group of missionaries here.

The branch here is awesome. There are a lot of youth and a lot of members who are super eager to help with missionary work. Honestly, it's so cool to see the level of participation in the work from the members. It honestly makes such a difference in the work.

We are currently teaching a family who just moved here from Venezuela who I already love so much. They have been through so many difficult experiences, and yet they are so humble and grateful to God. One of the women, Melitza, can barely walk and is wheeled around in a chair most of the time. She bore testimony in a cita about how God has blessed her. It is honestly so inspiring. She and her son have a date to be baptized the 24th of February. Her son's name is Michael, and he is a super cute kid. He is 7-years-old and turns 8 the 14th of February. He is so much fun in the appointments; every time we ask for a prayer his hand shoots up to say it....I love it so much.

This week I wanted to share a scripture I found that I had never noticed before that I think is super cool. It's found in Alma 37:44-45. You should all go and read it yourselves, but it basically likens the scriptures/words of Christ to the Liahona. In the same way that Lehi and his family were guided to the promised land with the Liahona, we can be guided to eternal life through the scriptures. They key is that both the objects require faith. The Liahona wouldn't work if they didn't have faith. At the same time, if we don't search the scriptures with faith and prayer, how can we expect to receive guidance? That was just a thought that I had when reading that I wanted to share. I live you all have a great week!
