Man this has been a really great week. So one thing that
happened, we had a district meeting and the ap's came, and they brought that
package that the family sent me so I was able to open it. That was great. It
was fun to read all of the letters, and the candy was very much appreciated. At
that meeting, we went and got kebab for the first time since I've been here.
For all of the missionaries reading this that have served in Spain and are
amazed at how long it's taken me, remember, that we eat with members a lot.
We also had this specialized training for the new
missionaries that was really great. I learned a lot and a lot of stuff for was
cleared up. We also had interviews with President last week, which was great. It
was really good to sit and talk with President and resolve some questions that
I'd had. It is crazy how busy mission presidents are. Just to give some perspective,
there are 8 zones and 200 missionaries. President has to organize and attend a
conference for ever zone and do an interview for every missionary every
transfer, which is each month and a half. He also has random meetings
throughout the transfer that he has to organize plus transfers, too, which is a
huge responsibility, plus a whole bunch of other stuff that I probably don't
know about. It's honestly crazy. I always knew that mission presidents were
super busy from when Dad was one, but I never realized exactly how much stuff
that they did. I'm super grateful for him. He is a very wise man and a great
blessing to all of us serving in the Madrid Mission.
I don't have a lot else to say, because I don't remember a
lot of what happened. So some crazy things that happened: Elder Simmons got
offered a job for 5,000 dollars a day down in Mexico from this sketchy guy that
we talked to, so that was interesting. Another day Elder Simmons and I were
walking, and this guy grabbed me and started kissing my hand a bunch. He was
super drunk and kept asking for money and grabbing my hands and trying to put
them over his heart. It was super uncomfortable, and he would not let go of me;
he had a pretty strong grip, too. So yeah, that was the crazy stuff that happened.
So to tell you guys about another person that we have been
teaching, her name is Vivian, and we have been teaching her for a couple weeks.
She is from Nigeria and a really nice person. She is going through a hard time
right now, because her uncle died just last Monday. We are trying to help teach
her right now, but she lives in a piso with another family, and it's super hard
to meet with all of them, plus she is working a lot and never has any time.
The rest of the week was pretty good. The big rivalry game
between Madrid and Barcelona was last night, and sadly, Madrid lost. Everyone
here in the streets was talking about it. There are a lot of Barcelona fans in
our ward, and they are going to be super smug for a couple weeks.
So another fun thing that happened in the continuation of
the prank war, Elder Simmons got back to Piso one night and our beds had been saran-wrapped
together by the other elders, that was pretty funny. On top of that, they hid
all of the scissors in the Piso, so we had to take it apart by hand. Another
funny thing this morning while Elder Simmons and I were planning, Elder Chabot
and Phillips came in with a reeses peanut butter egg from the birthday package
that had a bunch of matches stuck in it; that was pretty funny. So I had a
little birthday egg.
OK, it's time to be done; we have to go. It was fun to hear
from everyone, and thanks for all of the happy birthdays!
