1 transfer down, a whole lot more to go

So yea, already one transfer down! Kinda crazy. The transfer changes kinda drowned out all of the other small things that happened, so I'm having trouble remembering a lot of the other stuff that happened. So, some things I remember:

Elders Merrill and I had intercambios this week. (An intercambio is when you switch companions and areas to learn from someone different.) It went great; he is a cool guy and has read Brandon Sanderson and is a fan which makes him even cooler.  Elder Merrill also gave me this map of all the areas in the mission. I thought you might want to see it. But, Elder Merrill was transferred and will be leaving our district.

So further information on our investigators: one great thing that happened this week we were able to commit both Vivian and Carlos to a Fecha for a baptism. I'm still a little worried about Carlos; though, because we still have trouble meeting with him, and he is constantly failing us for our appointments. He seemed sincere when we asked him, but I'm getting the feeling that he isn't taking it serious enough. It's like we are more of an afterthought. We are going to keep working with him though and try to get him to commit a little more. I'll keep you updated. Vivian, however, is doing awesome. She has a lot of desires to learn and understand, and she is praying to receive an answer which is great, and she really wants to know. I'm really excited for her. She even gave us a couple of references to check out, too, which was cool. Normally when we ask if people know someone else who would be interested, they just say I don't know.

That also reminded me, another cool thing happened. We had our first investigator in church; her name is Carmen.  That’s really great news. Unfortunately, although we have been trying we cannot get into contact with him, we have called Juan Carlos, and we keep passing by his house, but he isn't there. If we ever find him we will try and teach him again, hopefully. We will see. At this point though, we think it's time to take a break and focus more on our investigators right now. But yea, that's the update on the people for this week.

So onto transfer info. So, Elder Chabot, the zone leader in the Piso with us, is gone. Elder Jepson is coming in now, haven't met him yet. Also leaving is Elder Merrill from the district. He is getting replaced by Elder Ferguson. Kinda crazy that we are going to be in the same district. For those who don't know or realize, Elder Ferguson is from my hometown and was even in the same seminary class as my older sister, Amanda. So yeah, I'm going to see him again; that will be cool. And also leaving is Hermana Quispe. We do not know who she will be replaced by yet, because with this coming transfer Hermana Vannucci will be training a new sister. So yeah, I'm not gonna be the youngest anymore! Ha, but that's what happened with this transfer.

One other thing, Elder Simmons was called to be district leader, which is cool. I'm positive he is going to do great. He is a very hardworking and obedient missionary, but he is pretty stressed about being a dl. He wants to do well, but he feels a little worried or anxious, because he has only had 8 months in the mission. But I think he is just psyching himself out.

Kebob
I was asked to describe the kind of food we eat at citas with the members, so here it goes. So most of the members that we eat with are from somewhere in South America, Africa or who knows where else. We get a pretty big variety of food that we eat, but there are some commonalities. For one, there is almost always rice, which I am coming to enjoy very much. Often, we are served chicken, too, which is never deboned, and you have to be careful while eating, because the whole chicken is cooked, and there are all kinds of tiny bones to watch out for. We have had lunches with a couple Spaniard families with some typical Spanish food like paella, which is good. Sometimes we have bocadillos sandwiches, which is just bread, cheese and Jamon cerrano which is awesome; very typical Spanish food. But yea, that's just a little summary of what we eat with the members. On our own we usually just make nachos, fajitas, or a quesadilla, and a whole lot of cereal, and I mean a lot. But yea that's a deeper look into the food life.

So that's pretty much it. Some kind of festival is going on here. It’s a medieval theme, but really just a big farmer’s market.  It’s cool. Not sure what for; I think it's the anniversary of the foundation of Móstoles. Because of it, everything is closed, and I mean everything. So no grocery shopping this pday. Maybe if we get President’s permission we can grab some stuff tomorrow or when we have time.  It also means shops including correos (which is the Spanish shipping service) are closed. So, Mom, I was going to send you something for mother’s day, but it's closed and I can't, so it's not going to get there until after mother’s day so my bad. As I'm writing this, I realize I could just tell you when we Skype......oh well now you know. love ya mom. Also, Happy Birthday to all my family members that are having birthdays. Sorry I didn’t send a personal email; I didn’t bring a list of birthdays.

That's all I can think of to write. Sorry if I am kind of jumping from place to place in my letters, but I just write stuff down as I remember it.

Love you all! Till next week

-Elder Bassett

I have no idea what this is. It's green. It's good. That's all I have to say.
