Hello my friends, I greet you.
This is the last p-day before transfers next week, and there
are going to be some big changes. Elder Simmons is for sure going to head out;
both Elder Phillips and Elder Ferguson will be going home, and we might be
getting a new companionship of sisters. It's gonna be crazy! We'll see though.
It’s not for a while; and we never really know what's gonna happen till it
happens, but onto the week!
Not a lot happened, just a lot of talking and a lot of
calls. It's been getting hotter and hotter every day. It’s been an average of
37 Celsius (100° F) the past couple of days. A little
more everyday, not as bad as the Malaga mission or anything, but still pretty
hot. We're surviving though.
There were 3 new things we did this week that were fun.
The first is that we did service in a residency center
nearby in a pueblo called Navalcanero. We brought Alvaro with us, and we went
and just talked to old people there for about an hour. It was good; although, I
understood practically nothing of what was said. There were some very think
accents being spoken; even Alvaro was having trouble understanding, so you can
imagine how lost I was. We also did service at another pueblo; we just helped
move a bunch of stuff on this little farm into a storage compartment.
The other big thing we had was an activity in our ward
called "Mostoles Summer Kickoff". They wanted a name in English, so
that's what we came up with. It was fun. There were a bunch of water games for
the kids, a futbol tournament, a ping pong tournament, and a bunch of other
little things. A lot of people brought friends, so we spent the majority of the
time talking to all of them, and it was great.
Not much else going on. Alvaro is still doing great and
getting ready for his fecha. Juan Carlos is also doing well. He is still
praying to receive an answer about the priesthood. The rest of our
investigators are either pretty new or have stopped answering our calls. I'll
give another update when we have more consistent investigators. It's going good
though, poco a poco.
For my spiritual thought this week I wanted to talk a little
bit more about Alvaro and sacrifice. Like I've mentioned many times, he's a
super good kid. To give you a little more info about him, he loves futbol, rapping,
and play station. Those 3 things are pretty much all he does. He spends most of
his time this way, because his group of friends are always trying to get him to
smoke or drink, and he prefers to just be by himself and be on the play station
all day then put with them and getting tempted constantly. So this Sunday after
church, we taught him about keeping the Sabbath day holy. Immediately after, he
told us that on Sundays he was going to stop using the play station, rapping,
and playing futbol. That was just amazing to me, because he is immediately
choosing to give up everything he enjoys to keep the Sabbath day holy.
Literally, that is all he does, and he is sacrificing it to be obedient. We can
all learn a lot from that. How often do we focus on ourselves and our earthly
possessions and passions instead of focusing on Christ? What can we sacrifice
now to become better and closer to Christ?
I love you all, thank you all for the sacrifices you have
already made to follow our Savior.
Con cariño,
- Elder Bassett
